Facilities Technician - Job ID 10454

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is looking for a reliable facilities technician to help maintain our facility and operations in Albuquerque, NM. The primary responsibility will be to maintain and repair building mechanical and support systems. This position will require general understanding and ability to perform the following trades: mechanical, H/VAC, electrical, plumbing, and light construction. The selected candidate will also assist in the property management/shipping and receiving duties as needed.

SDL, a University Affiliated Research Center, has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for almost six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.


· Maintain, operate all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, and building repairs

· Coordinate certifications/testing of life safety equipment, fire extinguishers, and fire system

· Assist in coordination of shipments for incoming and outgoing shipments

· Assist with inventory of property

· Support any afterhours building needs and activities as required

· Other assigned tasks as requested

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

· Must be able to carry, push, pull, drag, or hold up to 40 pounds
· Heavy lifting and moving of equipment
· Ability to spend substantial time walking, standing, pulling, and reaching
· May work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Required Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED

· 2 years of related experience

· Must have a valid driver's license

· Ability to demonstrate the specific skills necessary to the position using industry procedures, tools, and equipment necessary to accomplish required tasks

· Communicate effectively both orally and writing

· Must have working knowledge of MS Office and ability to effectively utilize e-mail and spreadsheets

· Must be a US citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

· Specific trade school training preferred 

· Commercial HVAC experience

· Willing to obtain a CDL

· Detail-oriented and proactive

· Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of personnel at different professional levels

· Organizational skills

· Working knowledge of trades

· Willing to travel, as needed
