Computer Scientist - Cloud Computing

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a computer scientist to lead research activities which will result in comprehensive system solutions for new advanced mobile systems. This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Kirtland Air Force Base. This is a research and development position focused on cloud computing concepts for use in mobile architectures and space applications.  The effort will require close coordination with multiple disciplines and will involve integration of third-party hardware and software.

Responsibilities Include:

·         Lead engineering team to design and implement solutions that meet project cost, schedule, and performance objectives

·         Design and develop effective computing architectures including: developing, integrating, and testing software and hardware solutions

·         Apply innovation, creativity, and good engineering practice to develop new capabilities

·         Plan, document, execute, and analyze testing of systems or subsystems

Required Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years’ work experience (5 years with master’s degree)

·         Experience developing/implementing cloud-based solutions

·         Current Department of Defense/U.S. Government top secret security clearance

·         Previous experience working with commercial cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, or Azure

·         Must possess strong organizational skills, development skills, and relevant educational background in cloud infrastructure and/or application integration and development

Preferred Skills & Experience:

·         Extensive experience planning, implementing, migrating, managing, and operating systems/applications in an enterprise cloud computing environment

·         Experience with hybrid cloud architectures

·         Experience writing technical documentation, especially in relation to cloud architecture

·         Significant hands-on experience with AWS

·         Strong coding skills, including Java, Go, C, and C# experience

·         Expertise with common version control systems (e.g., subversion, git)

·         Experience working with micro-services

·         Experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions

·         Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) platform deployment and operation

·         Ability to learn new coding languages or development environments

·         Solid understanding and experience in software engineering methodologies and best practices

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to work in an unstructured research and development environment

·         Experience with cyber security concepts and an understanding of NIST 800-53 security controls
