Engineer - Satellite Ground Systems - Job ID 9971

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a satellite ground systems engineer to help with the development, design, deployment, and operation of a new satellite ground segment to engineer ground segment modifications and define operations paradigms as satellite missions are funded. The successful candidate must be able to apply technologies in novel ways to solve research questions, provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, and have experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud), cybersecurity engineering, COMSEC, and information assurance. The selected candidate will support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Small Satellite Portfolio (SSP) program at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.

Responsibilities Include:

·     Support satellite command and control and payload data processing

·     Responsible for ensuring availability of the systems for flight operations once the ground segment is operational

·     Assist the lead software developer in designing and implementing a SecDevOps infrastructure to manage ground and flight software development

Required Qualifications:

·     BS in engineering, computer science, or other related field

·     Strong background in systems engineering and architecture

·     Experience leading technical teams

·     Technical depth in software engineering, network engineering, and/or RF/communications engineering

·     Experience architecting cloud-based applications and solutions

·     Ability to use and uphold standard software development processes, including software analysis, design, testing, peer review, and continuous integration techniques

·     Agile/iterative systems development life cycle (SDLC)

·     Knowledge of team collaboration environments (JIRA, wiki, workflow and ticket tracking, build automation)

·     Ability to decompose complex problems and apply technologies in non-traditional ways to reach customer objectives 

·     Strong verbal and written communication skills

·     Ability to work independently and with team members

·     Must have or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance

·     Must be a US citizen

·     Must be able to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

·     Master’s degree in engineering, computer science or related field

·     Application of information assurance requirements (NIST 800-53) to novel solutions

·     Experience with containerized microservices development and/or serverless application development 

·     Experience in TCP/IP-based networking, RF principles, and model-based systems engineering

·     Experience with automated deployment using Ansible and/or Puppet

·     Familiar with ITIL-based service delivery concepts

·     Experience with MBSE tool(s) (Genesys, Core, Astah, etc.)

·     Knowledge of satellite telemetry acquisition and processing

·     Knowledge of space dynamics algorithms/orbital dynamics

·     Knowledge of secure coding disciplines

·     CISSP or related certifications

·     AWS Solutions Architect or related certifications

·     Experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting/automation
